Rome – Surprises of the Ghetto (part 1)

I was looking for the English translation of Portico d’Ottavia and with my great surprise I have found the Latin one that apparently is the one used for English readers.

So Porticus Octaviae (that is “portico” of Octavia) is an ancient structure you can find in the district called ghetto ebraico. It encloses the temples of Jupiter Stator, Juno Regina and a library.

The structure was used as a fish market since the medieval period until the last century.

Just like in the rest of the city, here you can find a mix of architectural structures from different period.

Maybe nowadays it is known for more tragica events but it still is a fascinating area.
